According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2007 compared to the previous year, the production of milk decreased 0.3%. The production of eggs fell 15% and the production of meat decreased 1%.
In 2007, 689,700 tons of milk (692,000 tons in 2006) and 155.8 million eggs (182.6 million eggs in 2006) were produced by agricultural producers in Estonia. 105,000 tons (live weight) of livestock and poultry were slaughtered in holdings or sold for slaughter to meat processing enterprises (106,500 tons in 2006).
In 2007, the average production of milk per cow was 6,368 kilograms, i.e. 83 kilograms more than in the previous year.
According to preliminary calculations, on 31 December 2007, the cattle in Estonia numbered 242,000 (of which 104,100 dairy cows), there were 374,700 pigs, 77,900 sheep and goats. (On 31 December 2006, the cattle numbered 244,800, of which 108,400 were dairy cows. There were 345,800 pigs and 66,000 sheep and goats).
The livestock purchased by meat processing enterprises gave 9,900 tons of beef (9,800 tons in 2006) and 29,000 tons of pork (26,700 tons in 2006).
Milk processing enterprises purchased 593,400 tons of milk (605,900 tons in 2006).
