According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2007 the cereal production was 859,600 tons. The cereal production was so big last in 1991, when 939,000 tons of cereal was gathered.
In 2007, the cereal production was 39% bigger than in the previous year. Of the total cereal production, 60,500 tons of rye, 322,000 tons of wheat and 372,900 tons of barley were produced. Compared with 2006, the production of rye increased 3.4 times, the production of wheat 1.5 times and the production of barley 1.2 times. In 2007 cereals were sown on 292,100 hectares, the average yield per hectare was 2,943 kilograms, of which 3,614 kilograms of rye, 3,299 kilograms of wheat and 2,668 kilograms of barley.
The production of potatoes amounted to 173,700 tons, which is 14% more compared to 2006. Potatoes were sown on 10,300 hectares; the average yield of potatoes was 16,871 kilograms per hectare.
The production of rape and turnip rape seed totalled 132,400 tons, which is 57% more compared to 2006. Rape and turnip rape was sown on 73,000 hectares; the average yield per hectare was 1,813 kilograms of rape and turnip rape seed.
In autumn 2007, 41,700 hectares of winter wheat, 20,500 hectares of winter rye and 5,400 hectares of triticale were sown for harvesting of the year 2008.
