According to Statistics Estonia, the percentage change of the consumer price index in the 2nd quarter of 2008 compared to the 2nd quarter of the previous year was 11.4%.
In the 2nd quarter compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the prices of goods changed by 10.6%, of which the prices of food by 15.8% and the prices of manufactured goods by 6.5%. The prices of services increased 12.9%. Rise in the prices of food, increase in housing expenditures and higher prices of motor fuel influenced the index most of all.
On average, the prices of goods and services were 2.2% higher in the 2nd quarter of 2008 than in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter of 2008, food and motor fuel, accounting altogether for more than half of the quarter’s increase in the consumer price index, influenced the consumer price index more than on average compared to the 1st quarter of 2008.
