The small growth in industry in November

According to Statistics Estonia, the industrial production in November 2007 decreased compared to October of the present year but increased compared to November of the previous year.
In November 2007, the seasonally adjusted industrial production of Estonia fell 1% compared to October. In comparison with November of the previous year, the industrial production increased 4%, in manufacturing 2%. The rapid growth lasted in energy production and mining.

In November 2007, compared to November of the previous year, the production of electricity increased 37%, the production of heat increased 7%. The growth in the production of energy has been caused by the exports via Estlink’s submarine cable.

In November compared to November of the previous year, the small growth in manufacturing continued. The sector of industry holding the largest share, i.e. the production of food, increased 4%. With regard to the branches of food production, the increase was observed in all branches except the production of milk products. The production of milk products, where the prices rose by more than one third during the year, decreased 4%. The production grew in all branches of machinery and apparatus manufacturing, mainly due to increase in exports. Compared to November of the previous year, the growth of production was the highest in the manufacture of precision instruments (37%). The production of furniture is in stable small growth. In November the small growth was in the manufacture of textiles, because of the increase in the production of sewn textile articles, while the production of yarn and fabric continues to decrease. The production of chemicals and building materials remained on the level of the previous year.

The downward trend continues in the manufacturing of wood, the production of metal products also decreased. The rise in the prices of raw materials constitutes a problem for these branches. The production of plastic products decreased since August, the decline was mainly influenced by the decrease of export production.

a In case of the seasonally adjusted volume index, the impact of the differing numbers of working days in a month and seasonally recurring factors has been eliminated. It is calculated only in comparison with the previous period.
b In the case of the working-day adjusted volume index, the impact of the differing number of working days in a month has been eliminated. It is calculated only in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year.
