The number of foreign tourists in accommodation establishments is continually decreasing

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 154,000 tourists — of which 56% foreign tourists — stayed in accommodation establishments. Compared to November 2006, the number of foreign tourists decreased by 2,700.

In November 86,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia. Compared to November 2006, the number of tourists from Sweden and Russia considerably decreased (30% and 27%, respectively). The number of tourists from the United Kingdom decreased by 6% and the number of tourists from Finland and Latvia stayed on the level of November 2006. The number of tourists from Norway slightly increased (2%).

The decrease in the number of foreign tourists staying in accommodation establishments was compensated for by an increase in the number of domestic tourists. In November 68,000 Estonian residents or 14% more domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than in November 2006.

In November 653 accommodation establishments with 15,000 rooms and 33,000 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 38%. The room occupancy rate decreased by 5 percentage points compared to November 2006.

The average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 480 kroons. The cost of a guest night was the highest in Tallinn — 604 kroons. In large accommodation establishments of Estonia with more than 100 rooms the average cost of a guest night was 533 kroons and in small accommodation establishments with up to 9 rooms the average cost of a guest night was 270 kroons.
