In 2007 nearly 1 million Estonian residents stayed in accommodation establishments

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2007, 2.34 million tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, 41% of them were Estonian residents.

In 2007, domestic tourism was characterised by a positive development. People had possibilities to spend more money on holiday trips, and companies and establishments — on seminars, training courses and other company events. In 2007, 963,000 Estonian residents or 16% more than a year ago stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia.

In 2007 the number of foreign tourists, who used the services of accommodation establishments, was 1.38 million or 3% less than in the previous year. The number of foreign tourists slightly increased during the first four months of the year, but in the high season of tourism and in the autumn months the number of foreign tourists showed a decreasing trend. First of all, the decrease in the number of foreign tourists was connected with the decreasing interest of Finish tourists in Estonia (Finland being our main partner state in tourism). 51% of accommodated foreign tourists came from Finland. Compared to 2006, the number of tourists from Sweden, Germany, United Kingdom and Russia also decreased considerably.

In December 167,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia. Compared to December 2006, the number of domestic and foreign tourists increased (10% and 4%, respectively). The number of tourists from Latvia (growth 59%) and Lithuania (32%) increased appreciably compared to December 2006. But the number of Swedish tourists decreased by one third and the number of tourists from Russia decreased 29%.

In December 649 accommodation establishments with 15,600 rooms and 33,200 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 36%. The average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 471 kroons.
