Today, the 1st of September is the 15th anniversary of the Information Centre of Statistics Estonia. In order to introduce the history of the Information Centre and the items in the library the exhibition is open till the 12th of September.
The task of the Information Centre is to distribute statistical information to users and to help users to manage better in the world of figures. Substantial changes have taken place in delivering of statistics during 15 years — most of the information is available on the Internet. However the Information Centre is still necessary for users of statistics. Besides offering consultation on the availability of statistics the Information Centre serves as a library. There is the biggest collection of statistical publications in Estonia — publications published by the statistical organisations of Estonia and other countries and international organisations. The oldest items are Estonian statistical publications from 1920.
When the library was opened in 1993, there were about 700 items. In the next five years the number of items reached 10,000 and now there are more than 22,000 items. At the same time the Information Centre has also extended — at the end of the year 2006 Statistics Estonia opened an Information Centre in Tartu.
The Information Centre of Statistics Estonia is located at 15 Endla Str in Tallinn and is open on workdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The anniversary exhibition is open to visitors from the 1st to the 12th of September.
