Consumer price index increased in April

According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index increased 2.9% in April 2010 compared to April of the previous year and 0.5% compared to March this year.

Goods were 3.8% and services 1.2% more expensive compared to April of the previous year. Food products were 1.5% and manufactured goods 5.7% more expensive.

Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 11.5% and non-regulated prices by 0.3% compared to April of the previous year.

Compared to April of the previous year, the index was mainly influenced by the 32.3% price increase of motor fuel, by more expensive fresh vegetables and by the 10.9% more expensive heat energy. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the prices of fresh vegetables and heating oil increased the most (54.4% and 46.7%, respectively). White bread was by 20.6%, flour by 20.3% and potatoes by 16.7% cheaper.

In April compared to March, the consumer price index was most influenced by the price increase of food, special offers of mobile communication services and price increase of motor fuel. The 8.8% price increase of fresh vegetables gave over a half of the impact of food.
