Consumer price index increased in November

According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index increased 5.3% in November 2010 compared to November of the previous year and 0.3% compared to October this year.

Goods were 6.5% and services 3.2% more expensive compared to November of the previous year. Food products were 10.4% and manufactured goods 2.8% more expensive.

Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 8.1% and non-regulated prices by 4.4% compared to November of the previous year.

Compared to November of the previous year, the index was mainly influenced by the 11.6% price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which gave over a half of the total rise of the index and, of which, in turn, the 19.7% price increase of dairy products and 40.6% price increase of vegetables accounted for more than a half. The 10% price increase of electricity, heat energy and fuels as a whole, which gave almost a fifth of the total change, also had a bigger impact on the index. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the prices of fresh vegetables (74.9%), apples (46.5%), milk (39%), coffee (33%) and butter (30.4%) have gained the most, but the prices of photographic goods and TV-sets, for example, have decreased (20.8% and 11%, respectively).

In November compared to October, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by the 2.2% price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages and by the 6.8% price decrease of mobile telecommunication services. The 4.5% price increase of cereals and 10.2% price increase of fruits gave two thirds of the impact of food on the index. Compared to the previous month, the price of fresh cucumber has gained the most (57.8%), followed by grapes (55.3%), white bread (18.3%) and bananas (16.9%). The prices of lemon (19.1%) and paprika (13.8%) have decreased the most.
