Statistics Estonia has extended the application period for enumerator jobs until 28 November in Tallinn, Harju county, Tartu county and Ida-Viru county where there have not been enough applicants. Over 6,900 applications in total have been submitted to the competition.

Today, on 16 November, the geographic information systems (GIS) and geography day is held at the National Library of Estonia from 10:00 to 17:00. Among other things, visitors can see the map applications created for the Population and Housing Census which begins at the end of this year.

83% of Estonia’s inhabitants are aware of the upcoming Population and Housing Census, revealed a survey conducted by the research agency Faktum & Ariko. The majority of the respondents believed that the Census was necessary.

On Monday, 7 November, the Estonian Debating Society and Statistics Estonia will launch a series of debates, called “Estonia’s Most Important Debate”, focussing on population issues. During the week, researchers and politicians will debate with young people in six different locations in Estonia.

Yesterday, on 3 November the competition for enumerator’s post came to an end. As total, over 6,600 persons wish to become an enumerator in different regions of Estonia.

Thursday, 3 November is the last day one can apply for the enumerator’s post at the Population and Housing Census starting at the end of the year. For conducting the Population Census, Statistics Estonia recruits 2,000 enumerators as total.

70% of the residents of Estonia are expecting the answer about the real population number of the country from the Population and Housing Census which will begin at the end of the year, appears from the survey conducted by the research agency Factum & Ariko in October. 95% of the persons questioned consider the Census essential for Estonia.
