In February the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in February, 143,000 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia, which is 15% more than in February of the previous year. 44% of tourists were residents of Estonia.

In February 63,000 domestic tourists used the services of accommodation establishments. In recent years, compared to the same month last year, the number of domestic tourists decreased – in 2009 nearly one fifth, in 2010 5%. In February 2011, 7,000 domestic tourists more than in the same month a year ago used the services of accommodation establishments. The most preferred destinations were Harju and Valga counties, where respectively 25% and 13% of domestic tourists using the services of accommodation establishments stayed. About a half of domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 29% on a business trip.

In February 80,000 foreign tourists or 11,000 tourists (15%) more than in the same month a year ago stayed in accommodation establishments. 78% of foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Tallinn, 6% of Pärnu and 4% of Tartu. Compared to the previous year, in February 15% more foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Tallinn and 12% in accommodation establishments of Tartu, the number of foreign tourists in accommodation establishments of Pärnu increased less – 3%. More foreign tourists than in February 2010 came from all main partner countries – from Finland, Russia, Latvia, Sweden, Norway, etc.

In February 770 accommodation establishments with 16,700 rooms and 36,400 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 35% and the bed occupancy rate 27% or each bed was used for an average of 8 nights during the month.

The average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 26 euros and it was 4% more expensive compared to February 2010.
