Consumer price index did not change over the month

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index was 0.0% in June 2011 compared to May and 4.9% compared to June of the previous year.

Goods were 6.5% and services 2.2% more expensive compared to June 2010.

Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 5.1% and non-regulated prices by 4.8% compared to June of the previous year.

Compared to June of the previous year, the index was mainly influenced by the 11.5% price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which gave over a half of the total increase of the index. Housing expenditures gave a sixth and alcoholic beverages and tobacco an eighth of it. Compared to the same month a year ago, as before, the prices of potatoes have increased the most (82%), followed by sugar (62%) and coffee (48%). More than a 30% increase was detected in case of the prices of groats (40%), apples (39%) and vegetable oil (39%). But eggs were 16.9% cheaper.

In June compared to May, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by housing. The 2.6% price increase of heat energy gave nearly 60% of its impact on the index. The 14.3% price decrease of fresh vegetables, 5.6% price decrease of fresh fruit and 1.1% price decrease of motor fuel, as well as 7.1% price increase of long-distance bus tickets also had a bigger impact on the index. Compared to May, Chinese cabbage was cheaper by 45%, paprika by 36%, tomatoes by 22%, cabbage by 21% and bananas by 19%.
