Consumer price index increased in 2010

According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index increased 3.0% in 2010 compared to the average of 2009.

The consumer price index was mainly influenced by the 20.1% price increase of motor fuel, the 6.9% price increase of electricity, heat energy and fuels, and the 3% price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages.

In 2010 compared to the average of the previous year, fresh vegetables were 40%, fuel oil 35%, coffee 15.9% and milk 14.7% more expensive. Regardless of the price increases at the end of the year, such food products as flour, white bread and sugar were cheaper (12.4%, 10.7% and 8.6%, respectively) in 2010 than in 2009 on average.
