Annual change of consumer price index was mainly influenced by food and non-alcoholic beverages in September

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index was 0.5% in September 2011 compared to August and 5.2% compared to September of the previous year.

Goods were 6.1% and services 3.5% more expensive compared to September of the previous year.

Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 7.8% and non-regulated prices by 4.3% compared to September of the previous year.

Compared to September of the previous year, the index was mainly influenced by a 9.3% price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which gave over 40% of the total increase of the index. Housing expenditures gave over a quarter of the total increase, of which the price increase of electricity, heat energy and fuel by 8.1% gave two thirds. Compared to September of the previous year, motor fuel was by 17% more expensive and gave over a sixth of the total increase. Compared to the same period a year ago, the prices of sugar (50%), coffee (44%), vegetable oil (40%) and groats (37%) have increased the most. This year fresh vegetables were 16.5% and other fruits 13% cheaper.

In September compared to August, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by the ending of sales for clothing and footwear, the seasonal decrease in the prices of vegetables by 7.4%, as well as price increase of motor fuel by 2%. Compared to August, sauerkraut was by 36%, carrots by 29% and fresh cabbage by 28% cheaper.
