According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index increased 5.4% in April 2011 compared to April of the previous year and 0.7% compared to March 2011.

Goods were 6.9% and services 2.6% more expensive compared to April 2010.

Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 5.4% and non-regulated prices also by 5.4% compared to April of the previous year.

Compared to the same period a year ago, the prices of potatoes, coffee, sugar and apples have increased the most (86%, 55%, 45% and 42%, respectively). More than a 30% rise was detected in case of the prices of groats (37.5%) and vegetable oil (31%). But eggs were 6.7% cheaper.

In April compared to March, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by food and non-alcoholic beverages, which gave nearly three fourths of the total change. Over a fourth of the impact of the food and non-alcoholic beverages on the index gave 2.3% more expensive meat products, over a fifth 3.7% more expensive vegetables and nearly a sixth 2% more expensive cereals. Compared to March, sauerkraut was 20%, Chinese cabbage 19%, vegetable oil 17% and sugar 15% more expensive, but grapes were 24% and flights 17% cheaper.
