Quarterly pig and poultry surveys will cover only the most important and largest enterprises as the production in these fields is very concentrated, the production of smaller holdings is not characterized by high seasonality as in case of larger holdings and data delivery is a high burden for smaller holdings. For estimating the egg production the use of data from packaging centres will be investigated.

All users have been granted an equal access to official statistics: this means that the dissemination dates of official statistics have to be announced in advance and no user category (incl. Statistics Estonia performs all statistical activities according to an international model (Generic Statistical Business Process Model – GSBPM). SURVEY DATA

Total population involves 15,800 objects. The sample size and design for 2015 is under decision.

ADMINISTRATIVE DATA

The data on the number and slaughterings of cattle, sheep and goats are received from the Estonian Agricultural Registers and Information Board (PRIA).

The data on milk production is received from Estonian Animal Recording Centre.

DATA FROM OTHER STATISTICAL ACTIVITIES

Data from statistical activity 21216 „Survey of agricultural household plots” are used.

18.3. Data collection Systematic process of gathering data for official statistics.

Data are collected through eSTAT (the web channel for electronic data submission) and from administrative data sources. eSTAT is also used to monitor the completion of questionnaires. The questionnaires have been designed for completion in eSTAT by the respondents themselves and they include instructions and controls. The questionnaires and information about data submission are available on Statistics Estonia’s website at https://www.stat.ee/andmete-esitamine (in Estonian). Data are collected with the quarterly statistical questionnaires „Loomakasvatus. Linnud” ja „Loomakasvatus. Sead”.

Arithmetic and qualitative controls are used in the validation process, including comparison with the data of previous periods or other surveys and with administrative data sources.

The data on cattle, sheep and goats are collected by the Estonian Agricultural Registers and Information Board in the Register of Agricultural Animals. The data on milk production are collected by the Animal Recording Centre. The data on pigs and poultry are collected from agricultural holdings.

Weights are calculated for the statistical units which are used to expand the data of the sample survey to the population. For estimating population totals, the sample data on agricultural holdings are grossed up separately in each stratum. The expansion factor is the ratio of each subpopulation to the number of respondents in that stratum. In case of missing or unreliable data, the estimates are imputed according to the relevant guidelines. To compensate for non-response among agricultural holdings in the completely enumerated part of the population, the data are replaced with administrative data, the data for the previous period or the data for similar holdings. The data of agricultural small units are estimated. National aggregates are calculated by adding up the data of agricultural holdings and agricultural small units. The variables which were not collected directly but are required for output generation are calculated. In order to calculate new variables, mathematical expressions are applied to existing variables. The process may be repeated, i.e. a derived variable may be based on other derived new variables.

Microdata are aggregated before analysis. This covers data summarisation according to the classification and the calculation of various statistical indicators (e.g. mean). The indicators to be published are calculated on the basis of the collected data.
