The generalized boundaries of Estonian administrative and settlement division are made for compiling the thematic maps and cartograms.
Boundaries are generalized for using in the following map scales:
- boundaries of counties in scale 1: 5 000 000 could be used in cartograms in A8 format
- boundaries of counties and local government units in scale 1: 2 500 000 could be used in thematic maps in A5 format
- boundaries of counties and local government units in scale 1: 1 000 000 could be used in thematic maps in A3 format
- boundaries of settlement units and local government units in scale 1: 300 000 could be used for thematic mapping of smaller areas, e.g. villages in A4 and A5 format
The boundaries are generalized for presentation of statistical data in thematic maps and in cartograms in publications of Statistics Estonia or other publications. All data that correspond to the classification of Estonian administrative units and settlements of 1 January 2010 could be joined to map layers.
