Construction, 4th quarter 2008
According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 35 billion kroons, which is 12% less than a year earlier.

Education, 2008
According to the Statistics Estonia, at the beginning of academic year 2008/2009,
154,481 pupils were acquiring general education, 27,239 vocational education and 68,399 students were acquiring higher education. The decrease in the total number of pupils is influenced by the number of pupils acquiring general education, which has decreased during the last decade.

Average wages and salaries, 4th quarter 2008
According to Statistics Estonia, in the 4th quarter of 2008, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 13,117 kroons and the hourly gross wages and salaries were 79.58 kroons. Compared to the 4th quarter of 2007, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were by 6.9% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were by 9.9% higher. Since 1993, the growth of monthly gross wages and salaries was last as small as that in the 1st quarter of 2004 (6.5%).

Immigrant population in Estonia, 2008
According to Statistics Estonia, the opinions of immigrants with knowledge of the Estonian language differed significantly from the opinions of immigrants without knowledge of the Estonian language with respect to belonging to the Estonian society and considering Estonia as their home country.

Foreign trade, December 2008
According to Statistics Estonia, during the last months of 2008 both exports and imports of goods started to decrease sharply at current prices, but all in all exports grew by 5% and imports declined by 5% in 2008 compared to the previous year. The foreign trade deficit decreased significantly.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2009 the percentage change in the producer price index was -0.5% compared to December 2008 and 3.3% compared to January.

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate was 5.5% in 2008 and 7.6% in the 4th quarter. By counties, the annual average unemployment was the biggest in Ida-Viru county and the smallest in Pärnu county.

According to Statistics Estonia, by flash estimations, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 9.4% in Estonia in the 4th quarter of 2008 compared to the same quarter in the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 4th quarter of 2008 7,300 purchase-sale transactions of real estate were notarised, which is 13% less than in the previous quarter and about a third less than in the 4th quarter of 2007.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the production of milk and meat increased and the production of eggs decreased compared to the previous year. Animal production has been relatively stable during the last five years.

Production of industrial output and energy, December 2008
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 compared to 2007, the production of industrial enterprises decreased 6.5%. The moderate growth of the industrial production at the beginning of 2008, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, turned to decline since March.
