Taxes, 2009
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the Estonian overall tax ratio was 36% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Compared to 2008, the ratio of taxes rose by 4 percentage points, mostly due to the increase of excise duties.

According to Statistics Estonia, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises decreased in February 2010 compared to January this year as well as compared to February of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2010 the production of industrial enterprises rose 5% compared to February of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2010 exports of goods grew by 11% and imports declined by 3% compared to the same month of 2009. The increase in exports was mainly influenced by the steep growth in the dispatches of oil products and fuel oils.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the Estonian general government sector deficit was 1.7% and gross debt level was 7.2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In the 4th quarter the Estonian general government sector surplus was 4.3 billion kroons.

Transport, 2009
According to Statistics Estonia, the sharp decrease of freight volume of transport enterprises in Estonia continued in 2009. The freight turnover decreased by 13% and the economic crisis affected remarkably the road transport enterprises. Passenger transport did not change significantly.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2010 the producer price index increased 0.5% compared to January and 0.1% compared to February of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, the labour productivity on the base of value added of the information and communications technologies (ICT) sector in 2009 was two times higher than the average of business sector.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2010 compared to the same month of the previous year, the exports of goods increased for the first time during the 14 months. Imports decreased 2%.

Gross domestic product, 4th quarter 2009
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 14.1% compared to the previous year. The biggest downfall was in the 2nd quarter when the GDP decreased by 16.1%. After that, the decrease gradually decelerated. In the 4th quarter, the GDP decreased by 9.5% according to the first estimates.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2010, 73,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 18% more than year earlier in the same period.

For International Womens Day: life expectancy of women and men
According to Statistics Estonia, one of the most important population development indicators — life expectancy — has shown an increasing trend in Estonia in case of women as well as men during the last decade. Due to a higher life expectancy, women outnumber men at the age of 65+ by two times.

According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index decreased 0.1% in February 2010 compared to February of the previous year and increased 0.2% compared to January.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the total profit of business sector was 17.2 billion kroons being more than two times smaller than in the previous year.

The enumerators of pilot Census of PHC 2011 will start face-to-face interviews
Tomorrow, on 5 March starts the second phase of the pilot Census of 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011), in the course of which the enumerators of Statistics Estonia will visit those people living in the pilot Census areas who did not participate in e-census.

Production of industrial output and energy, January 2010
According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2010 the production of industrial enterprises was equal to the production in January of the previous year. The growth in the energy production was the main factor causing the increase in the production, which had been declining since the respective month of the previous year, because the production of manufacturing decreased in comparison with January of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2010 compared to January of the previous year the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises decreased by a tenth at constant prices. The slowdown of the decrease in retail sales that had started in December last year continued also in January this year.

Construction, 4th quarter 2009
According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 23.5 billion kroons, which is 28% less than a year earlier. The construction volumes which had started to decline in 2008 kept decreasing last year, too.
