What conditions do children in Estonia live in and how child-friendly is the Estonian society? The section presents different aspects of children’s life: children’s living environment, poverty and social exclusion, the well-being of families with children, and demographic trends.
Nowadays, well-being and children’s well-being are widely used terms. Children’s well-being is in the focus of various organisations, institutions, political forces and the public sector. The aim of the section on children’s well-being is to define the concept of well-being from a child-centred perspective and to provide topics and indicators, which are used in measuring children’s well-being in Estonia and published regularly, keeping in mind national practices and needs as well as international trends and recommendations. Describing actual well-being requires a comprehensive characterisation of the situation and opportunities of children, incl. publishing relevant statistics.
