According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2020, the production of industrial enterprises decreased by 6% compared to June 2019. Production decreased in manufacturing and mining, while energy production increased owing to last year’s low comparison basis.

In June, the total production in manufacturing decreased by 6% year on year. According to Helle Bunder, analyst at Statistics Estonia, in contrast to the previous two months, in June, growth was recorded in more manufacturing activities. “Production grew somewhat in a third of manufacturing activities. Among the activities with larger shares, production increased in the manufacture of food products, computers and electronic products but decreased in the manufacture of metal products, electrical equipment and wood and products of wood,” explained Bunder.

68% of the total production of manufacturing was sold to the external market. The shares of sales for export were largest in the manufacture of electronic products and pharmaceutical products. According to unadjusted data, the sales of manufacturing production for export remained at last year’s level, while sales to the domestic market decreased by 1%.

In June, compared to May, the seasonally adjusted total industrial production increased by 8% and the production of manufacturing by 7%.

In energy production, the production of electricity increased by 3% and the production of heat by 2% compared to June 2019.
