First census results out today

Today, on June 1, Statistics Estonia will publish the first results of the population census. We will reveal the size of population of Estonia, sex and age distribution of the population, location of inhabitants, representation of various ethnic nationalities, mother tongues, and countries of citizenship in the Estonian society, and the changes that have occurred over the decades. On the occasion of the International Day for Protection of Children, we will also highlight census data on children.

Secure data interoperability Statistics Estonia received 1,099,300 euros via the innovation fund for the project “Secure data interoperability between sectors”. The innovation fund is administered by the Government Office of Estonia, and its activities and projects are funded under the European Union Cohesion Policy 2021–2027 measure “Development of innovation capacities in the public sector”. According to Statistics Estonia, 250,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in April 2023, which is 6% more than in April last year. The number of foreign tourists increased, but there were fewer domestic tourists.

According to Statistics Estonia, nearly 226,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in March 2023, which is 18% more than in March last year. The average cost of an overnight stay increased by 15% year on year.

Moderate increase in the construction price index continued

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the construction price index in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was 0.3% compared to the previous quarter and 2.0% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Average wages and salaries rose last year, while real wages fell

In 2022, the average monthly gross wages and salaries in Estonian companies, institutions, and organisations were 1,685 euros, which is 8.9% more than in 2021. However, the average real wages decreased by 8.8% to 1,358 euros last year.

Financial statistics of enterprises improved in 2016

After a few years of stagnation, 2016 can be considered rather successful for enterprises – the turnover, investments as well as the number of active enterprises increased by 4%. The improved results were reflected also in profits – the profit for the reporting year increased by 11%. Productivity indicators improved also.

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the construction price index in the 1st quarter of 2018 was 0.2% compared to the 4th quarter of 2017, and 1.8% compared to the 1st quarter of 2017.
