According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2024, Estonia’s exports of goods decreased by 6% and imports by 13% compared with May 2023. Exports of goods amounted to nearly €1.6 billion and imports to almost €1.7 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €144 million, which is €170 million less than in May last year.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the volume of turnover, which in March had grown by 2% year on year, showed slightly faster growth in April. “The increase in retail trade volume in April was driven by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by stores selling manufactured goods – compared with April last year, their turnover volume was up by 18% and 7%, respectively,” explained Pihlak. According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served over 384,000 tourists in June 2024, which is 14% more than in June last year. There were more domestic as well as foreign tourists accommodated.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the average expenditure of Estonian residents on overnight outbound trips was greater than in the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. The average spending on outbound trips has increased by 43% in the years 2018–2023. The number of tourists accommodated in Estonia has not yet reached the pre-pandemic level, but the share of domestic tourists has increased significantly compared with 2018.

Data from Statistics Estonia show that the most popular online services used by the population in Estonia are banking and email. Compared with 2023, the number of social media users has increased – up by 5.7% in 2024.

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 1.3% in September compared with August 2022 and rose by 23.2% compared with September 2021.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises fell by 10.5% at constant prices compared with the year before. Output decreased in all three industrial sectors: by 21% in electricity production, by 9.8% in manufacturing, and by 4.7% in mining.
