Statistics Estonia started to employ enumerators for the pilot Census of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (REL 2011). The total of 24 persons will be employed to enumerate the population.

“The task of the enumerator in the pilot Census is to collect data for private persons and dwellings in the predetermined regions according to the questionnaire,” Diana Beltadze, the Project Manager of the 2011 Population and Housing Census of Statistics Estonia, said.

The applicant should have the knowledge of the Estonian language and be able to communicate in the Russian language. “Computer literacy is also essential as in the course of face-to-face interviews the data will be entered in the laptop computer and paper questionnaires are used only in exceptional circumstances,” Beltadze explained.

Statistics Estonia employs enumerators for the pilot Census for the period 15 February – 1 April 2010. One can apply for the post on CV Online (http://www.cv.ee/too/statistikaamet) until 21 December.

The 2011 pilot Census will be conducted in two parts: e-census (from 31 December 2009 to 21 February 2010) and face-to-face interviews (5–31 March 2010) where enumerators will visit the households who did not participate in e-census or whose questionnaires were incomplete. The pilot Census will be carried out in Tallinn, Narva, Paide and Püssi cities; in Pärnu-Jaagupi town; in Aravete small town, and in Rae, Rõuge and Viimsi rural municipalities.

In 2011 the Population and Housing Census will be conducted for the tenth time on the territory of Estonia. The previous censuses were conducted in 1881, 1897, 1922, 1934, 1959, 1970, 1979, 1989 and 2000. In 2010 and 2011 Population and Housing Censuses will be conducted in the majority of countries all over the world.
