According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in March, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.2% compared with February. Compared with March last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on March prices are received.

The consumer price index uses weights reflecting the average expenditure structure of Estonian residents, while the harmonised index of consumer prices also takes into account the expenditures of tourists and is comparable to the international HICP.

“We have not yet received all the data, but we can say that the index for March was influenced the most by the decreased prices of electricity and food products and by the increase in fuel prices,” said Lauri Veski, the Consumer Price Statistics Service Manager at Statistics Estonia.

The consumer price index data for March will be published by Statistics Estonia on Tuesday, 7 April. The March data on the harmonised index of consumer prices will be published on 15 April.
