In May 2021, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 1.6% compared to April 2021 and by 8.4% compared to May 2020.

Eveli Šokman, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared to May 2020, the index was affected the most by increased prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products, in electricity production and in the manufacture of electronic equipment. “The index was also influenced by falling prices in the manufacture of electrical equipment,” noted Šokman.

Compared to April, the producer price index was affected the most by increased prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products, in electricity production and in the manufacture of fabricated metal products and plastic products. Decreased prices in the manufacture of electrical equipment had an opposite impact on the index.

In May, compared to April, the export price index rose by 1.5%. The biggest price increases occurred in electricity production and in the manufacture of basic metals and wood products. The export price index has been rising for 8 consecutive months. Compared to May 2020, the export price index increased by 11.1%

The import price index rose by 1.1% in May compared to April. Prices increased the most in mining and quarrying, in electricity production and in the manufacture of wood products. The import price index has increased for 6 months in a row. Compared to May 2020, the import price index increased by 11.9%.
