HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.2% in March
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in March, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.2% compared with February. Compared with March last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on March prices are received.
Retail trade volume up by 5% in February
According to Statistics Estonia, in February, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 840 million euros. Compared with February 2025, the volume of retail trade turnover grew by 5%.
Estonian residents travelled less last year
According to Statistics Estonia, Estonian residents made 1.5 million outbound overnight trips in 2025, which is 3% less than in 2024. There were nearly 3.1 million overnight domestic trips last year, down by 12% from 2024.
Government budgetary position improved last year, government debt increased
According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2025, the Estonian general government deficit was 1.2% and the debt level was 24.1% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 490.5 million euros.
The dwelling price index rose by 5.2% in 2025
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2025, the dwelling price index increased by 5.2% compared with the average of 2024. The monetary volume of transactions in 2025 was higher than the year before.
In January, exports of goods were up by 4% and imports down by 2%
According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2026, exports of goods increased by 4% and imports decreased by 2% compared with January 2025. Exports of goods amounted to nearly 1.6 billion euros and imports to more than 1.8 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 247 million euros, which is 103 million euros less than a year earlier.
