  3. Changes to the questionnaire Wages and salaries and labour force (1462)
From 2023 onwards, there will be changes to the questionnaire “Wages and salaries and labour force” (1462). The changes are related to the increased use of register data in the production of wage statistics. The data collected with the questionnaire will be used to produce labour cost indices and job vacancy statistics. Previously (until the end of 2022), this questionnaire was also used to collect data for average wage statistics. The biggest change concerns data on part-time and full-time employees, which are no longer asked separately. With the modified questionnaire, the data are collected

The world is interconnected through transport. The sector ensures that bananas from Costa Rica reach our tables or that wooden furniture from Estonia finds a place in Finnish or Swedish homes. A great transport system is an important component of the modern living and business environment. Transport is divided into land transport (i.e. road and rail), water transport and air transport. Together these modes influence almost all economic activities, including the service sector. The developments and demand of these, in turn, have an impact on the health of the transportation sector. Both local

What kind of survey is it? The Household Budget Survey provides information about the expenditures and living conditions of Estonian households, about household composition and the demographic and social characteristics of household members. The Household Budget Survey is one of the oldest surveys in Estonia – the first statistical survey on this topic was conducted already in 1925. The current survey methodology has been used since 2010. The survey consists of a household questionnaire and a personal questionnaire (for all household members aged 15 and over) and an expense diary. Who

From 2025 onwards, Statistics Estonia will no longer update short-term labour market statistics. The publication of short-term labour market statistics was based on a commissioning contract and the contract expired in 2024. Interactive charts give an overview of the labour market in Estonia based on the data of the employment register. They show changes in the number of employment relationships: how many were started, suspended or terminated. There is also a time series of the changes in these indicators. The number of employment relationships is based on entries in the employment register

  3. Identifying permanent residence in the Population and Housing Census
The places where people live have been recorded in one way or another for centuries. Previously, the place of registration could have been a church, municipality government, city address board, housing board or the Population Register. In recent decades, developed countries have found that register data are usually more accurate than survey data, and so population censuses have also begun to use them. Back in 2011, eight European Union countries conducted the census on a register basis: in addition to the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Slovenia.

Travelling is a great way to see life in neighbouring countries or in faraway places. Hundreds of millions of people travel every day – for work, vacation or to broaden one’s horizons. Visa-free travel in the Schengen area and the adoption of the euro have encouraged people to visit Estonia and made it easier for Estonian people to travel abroad. World Tourism Day is celebrated each year on September 27. Statistics Estonia publishes the following tourism statistics: travelling of Estonian residents, including number of domestic and foreign trips, purposes of trips, destination countries and
