According to Statistics Estonia, 22.5% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 3.5% in absolute poverty in 2022. Compared with 2021, the share of people living at risk of poverty decreased by 0.3 percentage points and the share of people living in absolute poverty increased by 2.1 percentage points.

Ülo Paulus, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the increase in the construction price index in 2024, compared with the average of 2023, was primarily due to wage growth, which accounted for 65% of the total index rise. “In 2024, the construction price index rose by 1.6%. Retail trade volume down by 1% year on year

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that the decline in the volume of retail trade turnover in November was most affected by grocery stores, as their turnover volume decreased by 4% year on year. “The turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods, however, continued to grow in November, increasing by 2% compared with the same period last year,” Pihlak noted.
