According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2018, the unemployment rate was 6.8%, the employment rate 66.6% and the labour force participation rate 71.4%. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2017, economic activity of the population increased mainly due to an increase in unemployment but somewhat also due to an increase in employment.

The industrial producer price index increased in October

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2017, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 0.4% compared to September and by 3.7% compared to October 2016.

Since 1996 the Statistical Office conducts reputation surveys and user surveys. The survey is conducted at least once a year, the existing as well as potential consumers are interviewed. The aims of user surveys are: to find out the reputation of the Statistical Office among consumers, to find out the need for statistical information, to study the consumers’ preferences in using various statistical products, to get the necessary information for production development. According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2017, the exports of goods increased by 8% and imports by 12% compared to August 2016. Increased exports and imports of mineral products and mechanical appliances contributed to trade growth.

Three times more dwellings in Estonia compared to 100 years ago

According to Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2017, there were 706,000 dwellings in Estonia, of which 76% were occupied. Compared to 1922 when there were 252,000 dwellings in Estonia, the number has nearly tripled.
