Commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Statistics Estonia analyses the employment situation of Ukrainian refugees under temporary protection and the Ukrainian citizens staying in the country on other grounds. Data will be updated regularly from now on.

Social protection helps the underprivileged and vulnerable members of society to cope, covering public and private financial support and support services for job search, health care and daily living. The state organises social protection through social insurance and social welfare. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2007 19.5% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty, a similar amount to the previous year. The difference in income between the poorest and richest fifth of the population was fivefold, leaving Estonia persistently in the top ten of the poorest countries in Europe.

The production of short-term death statistics was prompted by the 2020 coronavirus crisis. The chart shows the weekly death statistics for 2010–2025. According to the revised data of Statistics Estonia, 1,319,133 persons lived in Estonia on 1 January 2018, which is 3,499 persons more than at the same a year earlier. In 2017, the population figure decreased by 1,759 persons due to natural increase, but increased by 5,258 persons as a result of positive net migration.

Three times more dwellings in Estonia compared to 100 years ago

According to Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2017, there were 706,000 dwellings in Estonia, of which 76% were occupied. Compared to 1922 when there were 252,000 dwellings in Estonia, the number has nearly tripled.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.1%, the employment rate 68.2% and the labour force participation rate 71.9%. The unemployment rate was the lowest in a decade.
