According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the ratio of research and development (R&D) expenditures to the gross domestic product (called the intensity of the R&D) reached unprecedented level of 1.42% despite the actual decrease of those expenditures.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2010, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 11,865 kroons and the hourly gross wages and salaries were 74.46 kroons. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2009, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were by 2.3% lower and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were by 2.7% lower.

Today, on 11 October, Statistics Estonia presents “Success on the Labour Market” – an overview of the average gross monthly income of persons with vocational and higher education and their social status on the labour market.

According to the final results of the 2013 Farm Structure Survey, there were 19,200 agricultural holdings in Estonia, of which nearly 1,000 largest ones produce more than three-quarters of standard output, announces Statistics Estonia. Statistics Estonia has organised public procurement for the purchase of 2,332 laptops which are going to be used in the conduct of the Population and Housing Census starting in December this year. After the end of the Population and Housing Census, the procured laptops will be used by various state agencies.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the exports at current prices decreased 24% and imports 33% compared to 2008. Exports to Finland and Sweden decreased most by the trade value. In the last months of the year the decline in the trade slowed down.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the volume of turnover, which in March had grown by 2% year on year, showed slightly faster growth in April. “The increase in retail trade volume in April was driven by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by stores selling manufactured goods – compared with April last year, their turnover volume was up by 18% and 7%, respectively,” explained Pihlak.
