Today, on 15 June, Statistics Estonia unveiled a commemorative plaque on the former building of the State Statistical Central Bureau in the old town of Tallinn.

The State Statistical Central Bureau founded in 1921 was the predecessor of Statistics Estonia, which laid the foundation for producing the official statistics in Estonia.

While studying the history of the organisation, it appeared that in 1921–1940 the State Statistical Central Bureau was located in the same building which now houses the Tallinn office of the Embassy of Canada (Toom-Kooli 13). To value the history of Estonian statistical system, Statistics Estonia applied for permission from the Tallinn Culture and Heritage Department to install a commemorative plaque on the building.

Statistics Estonia initiated the installation of the commemorative plaque in the framework of the 90th anniversary of Estonian statistical system in 2011.
