Statistics Estonia announces the competition for the young statistician’s grant named after Albert Pullerits. The aim of the grant is to promote statistics as an important field of science and to encourage students to apply and develop statistical methods.

Starting 2015, Statistics Estonia has slightly modified the terms and conditions of the competition. Also, the winner of the grant is now announced around the same time that the graduation ceremonies at universities take place.

The most significant change in the terms and conditions is that the range of eligible subject areas has been expanded  – all persons whose Master’s or Bachelor’s thesis on population, social life, economy or the environment has been completed and submitted in 2015 and implements or develops a statistical method to a significant extent are eligible to apply for the grant. The author of the thesis has to be aged 25 or under in the year when he/she applies for the grant

The submission deadline is 20 May 2015. The applicants should send their theses to Statistics Estonia by e-mail at statistika [at] stat.ee (statistika[at]stat[dot]ee), with the subject line “Albert Pulleritsu preemia”. The winner will be announced on 22 June 2015 on Statistics Estonia’s website. The winner will be awarded an iPad.

More information about the competition can be found on Statistics Estonia’s website.

The competition for the Albert Pullerits grant takes place for the fifth time. The grant was awarded for the first time in 2011 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Estonian statistics. Albert Pullerits was the first director of the Estonian State Central Bureau of Statistics established in 1921, and the founder of the official statistics system in Estonia.

On 7 May, the phone line of Statistics Estonia’s customer support will be closed from 10:00 to 13:00. We apologise for the inconvenience.
