Stable turnover growth in retail trade enterprises continued in December

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2019, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 703 million euros. Compared to December 2018, turnover increased by 4% at constant prices.

In December 2019, the turnover of stores selling manufactured goods increased by 6% year-on-year. The greatest increase in turnover was registered by other specialised stores, such as stores selling predominantly computers and their accessories, books, sports equipment, games, toys, etc. (11% growth). A higher than average increase in turnover occurred also in stores selling household appliances, hardware and building materials (7% growth).

The turnover of grocery stores increased by 5%, while the turnover of enterprises engaged in the retail sales of automotive fuel decreased by 4%.

Compared to November, in December, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased by 12%. This is typical for December, as Christmas and turn-of-the-year sales take place.

According to preliminary data, in 2019, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was nearly 7.5 billion euros. Compared to 2018, turnover increased by 4%.

The statistics are based on the VAT declaration data of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board. Statistics Estonia published the monthly summary in four working days.
