Statistics Estonia has announced a competition for engaging 15 district heads of the Census districts for the 2011 Population and Housing Census, which will start at the end of the year. District centres in nine cities all over Estonia will commence work in August; the deadline of applying for the post is 5 June.

The total area of utilised agricultural land did not change considerably in 2017. Production of field crops was higher than in the previous year, but a lot of production was not harvested. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2010 the ratio of research and development (R&D) expenditures to the gross domestic product reached a novel level – 1.63%, a year earlier the respective indicator was 1.43%. The improved result was significantly influenced by investments in the technological development made in the oil industry.
