Leaving out the population and housing census mandatory for all, personal surveys are mostly voluntary. For social surveys, we collect data from individuals if the data cannot be obtained from databases. Statistics Estonia conducts various surveys, for example, on the working life, travel and time use of the population. The surveys vary in frequency, some lasting a month or two, others for two years. Forestry statistics provide information about the size of Estonia’s forest resources, the annual increment of stands, the area of forest land in Estonia, the share of protected forest land or for example the annual volume of fellings. Forest accounting is a statistical framework that treats forests both as a natural resource and as an economic asset from a macroeconomic perspective.
