According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the second quarter of 2024, Estonia’s exports and imports of services both grew by 3%. Exports of services totalled 3.1 billion euros and imports of services 2.3 billion euros at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by 802 million euros, which is 39 million euros more than in the second quarter last year.

Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that exports of goods increased in September and in the third quarter overall. “Although re-exports fell by 1% in September, the rise in total exports was driven by the 4% increase in exports of goods of Estonian origin. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports grew by one percentage point year on year, reaching 64%” added Leppmets. There was a significant rise in trade with non-EU countries. According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2024, Estonia’s exports of goods decreased by 6% and imports by 13% compared with May 2023. Exports of goods amounted to nearly €1.6 billion and imports to almost €1.7 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €144 million, which is €170 million less than in May last year.

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 1.0% in July 2023 compared with June and by 3.2% compared with July last year.

In 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to €18.2 billion and imports to €21.2 billion at current prices. Exports decreased by 16% and imports by 17% compared with 2022. According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2024, exports of goods decreased by 11% and imports by 13% compared with January 2023. Exports of goods amounted to about 1.4 billion and imports to 1.5 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 122 million euros, which is 60 million euros less than in January last year.
