According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises fell by 4.7% compared with April last year. Among the three main sectors, output increased by 3.6% in mining and by 10.1% in electricity production but decreased by 5.7% in manufacturing.

The corrections are marked in red. Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the rise in the consumer price index in January, both compared to December and the same month last year, was mainly due to food products, beverages, and motor vehicle tax. “On the other hand, the index was driven down by the sales on clothing in January and by international flights and holiday trips,” added Veski. Among food products, the biggest increases compared with December 2024 were registered in the prices of fish (31%), whole milk (12%) and fresh vegetables (7%)

According to Statistics Estonia, in June, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to 1.6 billion and imports to 1.9 billion euros. Compared with June 2022, exports of goods decreased by 14% and imports by 13% at current prices. The trade deficit in June was 271 million euros, which is 33 million euros less than in the same month last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2024, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 851 million euros. Compared with March 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover* fell by 4%.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the fourth quarter of 2022, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 12% and imports by 25% at current prices compared with the fourth quarter in 2021. Services were sold to non-residents for a total of 3 billion and purchased for 2.2 billion euros. The balance of foreign trade in services was therefore in surplus by 765 million euros in the fourth quarter, which is 125 million euros less than in the same period a year earlier. In 2022 as a whole, exports of services grew by 31% and imports by 19%.

Statistics Estonia's Adult Education Survey* shows that people take part in training to perform their jobs better. However, people attend an educational institution when they wish to improve their knowledge. In 19% of cases, a higher degree has also led to a new job or a higher salary. According to Statistics Estonia, an estimated 80% of the population aged 20–64 participated in adult education in the previous year*. Participation in adult education is higher among women, younger age groups, people with higher educational attainment, and native speakers of Estonian. Self-development has become considerably more popular among 50–64-year-olds. At the same time, the results indicate that two out of five adults would have liked to study more.
