The year end saw a change in the labour market

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate was 6.2%, the employment rate was 65.2% and the labour force participation rate was 69.4% in 2015. The unemployment level was significantly lower and the employment rate and labour force participation rate higher than in 2014. Compared to 2014, labour market indicators improved thanks to the results of the first three quarters, whereas in the 4th quarter the situation changed.

According to Statistics Estonia, unemployed persons numbered 57,000 and the unemployment rate was 8.5% in the 1st quarter of 2014. The number of both the unemployed and the employed decreased. For the first time since 2010, the number of unemployed persons decreased compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

Over 3800 persons have participated in the pilot Census of PHC 2011

According to Statistics Estonia, the first stage of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011), when the people can enumerate themselves on the web, will end on Sunday. Since 5 March the enumerators of Statistics Estonia will be visiting those inhabitants of the regions of the pilot Census who did not participate in e-census or who did not complete the questionnaire.

Today, on 1 December, Statistics Estonia launched a publicity campaign to raise awareness among the Estonian population of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011), set to begin on 31 December. The people of Estonia will be given information about participation in the census through television and radio as well as through out-of-home advertising and direct mail.
Every fifth person in Estonia lived in relative poverty and every fourteenth in absolute poverty last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2012, 18.7% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty and 7.3% in absolute poverty. The overall percentage of people living in relative poverty increased 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous year, but the percentage of people living in absolute poverty decreased 0.8 percentage points.
In the 2nd quarter, the number of job vacancies increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2018, there were approximately 11,400 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2018, the number of job vacancies increased by 8%. However, compared to the 2nd quarter of 2017, the number of job vacancies decreased by 5%. The number of job vacancies has exceeded 10,000 since the 1st quarter of 2017.
