1,360,745 people: Estonia’s population declined for the second year in a row
According to Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2026, the population of Estonia stood at 1,360,745. This is 9,250 persons fewer than at the same time the year before. Estonia’s population decreased for the second year in a row. There were 9,240 births and 15,688 deaths last year. 15,212 persons immigrated to Estonia and 18,014 persons emigrated.
Passenger traffic through Tallinn Airport was unchanged last year, air freight transport increased
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2025, Tallinn Airport served nearly 3.5 million passengers, which is at the same level as the year before. There was a decrease in passenger traffic on domestic routes between Tallinn and the main islands. The air transport of freight and mail increased.
HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.2% in March
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in March, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.2% compared with February. Compared with March last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on March prices are received.
In January, the consumer price index was up by 3.7% year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2026, the consumer price index increased by 1% compared with December 2025 and by 3.7% compared with January 2025. Compared with December, food prices were up by 2.3% in January.
Estonia’s environmental protection expenditure rose to €821 million
According to Statistics Estonia, Estonia’s environmental protection expenditure in real terms increased by nearly 56% in the period 2014–2023, that is, from €527 to €821 million. Compared with 2022, the expenditure was up by 13% in 2023. The share of environmental protection expenditure in GDP has decreased compared with 2014.
The number of tourists from Finland declined for the sixth consecutive month
According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served 291,000 tourists in October 2025, which is 6% more than in October last year. There were 7% more foreign and 5% more domestic tourists than in the same month last year. The number of tourists from Finland decreased for the sixth month in a row.
Foreign trade increased slightly in October, exports of goods of Estonian origin decreased
According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2025, exports of goods increased by 5% and imports by 4% compared with October 2024. Exports of goods amounted to over 1.7 billion euros and imports to more than 2 billion euros at current prices. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports declined a little.
Job vacancies down by 5.4% in the third quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2025, there were 9,375 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions, and organisations of Estonia. This is 5.4% less than in the same quarter last year. In the third quarter, 5,432 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.
In November, the consumer price index was up by 4.9% year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, in November, the consumer price index decreased by 0.2% compared with October and increased by 4.9% compared with November 2024. Goods were 2.9% and services 7.9% more expensive than in November last year.
Industrial production down by 1.1% in October
According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2025, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 1.1% at constant prices compared with October 2024. Among the three main sectors, output increased by 5.4% in mining and by 0.3% in electricity production but decreased by 1.4% in manufacturing.

Compared with November last year, the HICP rose by 4.7%. This is a flash estimate, which will be refined once more detailed data on November prices are received.
In the third quarter, exports of services grew by 12% and imports by 13%
According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the third quarter of 2025, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 12% and imports by 13%. Exports of services amounted to slightly more than 3.6 billion euros and imports to nearly 2.8 billion euros at current prices. The surplus of foreign trade in services was 834 million euros, which is 60 million euros more than in the same quarter last year.
The economy continued to grow slightly in Q3
According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.9% compared with the same period of 2024. The GDP at current prices amounted to €10.5 billion in the third quarter. Economic growth continued at the same pace as in the previous quarter.
Volume of retail trade turnover continued to grow in October
According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2025, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was €941 million. Compared with October 2024, the volume of retail trade turnover was up by 4%.
Average wages and salaries were €2,075 in the third quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2025, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were €2,075, which is 5.9% higher than in the third quarter of 2024. Year-on-year wage growth slowed down.
Construction volume in the third quarter up on the domestic market, down abroad
According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2025, the total production value of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 0.6% compared with the third quarter of 2024. On the domestic construction market, however, the rise in construction volume was 0.4%.
