Ülo Paulus, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period in 2024, the construction price index was primarily influenced by the 2.9% increase in employees’ wages, which accounted for 54% of the index change. “Compared with the fourth quarter of last year, labour force was 0.6% more expensive and the cost of using building machines rose by 0.3%, while the prices of building materials were down by 0.2%,” explained Paulus. The repair and reconstruction work price index decreased by 0.5% compared with the fourth quarter of 2024

The changes are related to the increased use of register data in the production of wage statistics. The data collected with the questionnaire will be used to produce labour cost indices and job vacancy statistics. Previously (until the end of 2022), this questionnaire was also used to collect data for average wage statistics. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2013, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 949 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 5.73 euros. Compared to 2012, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 7.0% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries increased 7.3%.

In the 2nd quarter the average monthly gross wages and salaries grew, but the real wages continued to fall

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2012, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 855 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 5.21 euros. Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2011, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 5.7% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries increased 8.1%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2009, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 12,147 kroons and the hourly gross wages and salaries were 76.53 kroons. Compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were by 1.5% lower and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were by 2.4% higher. Since 1993, the average monthly gross wages and salaries decreased for the first time as compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2011, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 792 euros (12,397 kroons) and the hourly gross wages and salaries were 4.87 euros (76.20 kroons). Compared to the 1st quarter of 2010, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were by 4.5% higher and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were by 2.3% higher.
