  2. Relationship survey
What kind of survey is it? The relationship survey reveals how Estonia's inhabitants rate the quality of their relationships at home, at work, and elsewhere. The knowledge generated by the survey allows an assessment of the quality and safety of human relationships, and the state can use this information to help people in the best possible way. The survey also shows how far the Estonian society is in the development of human rights and social policy and how we compare with other countries. The survey is conducted in all EU countries on the basis of a reliable and comparable methodology. Who

Exports of goods amounted to over €1.4 billion and imports to nearly €1.7 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €264 million, which is €63 million higher than in August last year. Allan Aron, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the last time exports of goods declined year on year was in August 2024. “The decrease in exports in August 2025 was mostly influenced by a fall in exports to countries outside the European Union. Exports to EU countries grew by 3%, but exports to non-EU countries fell by as much as 16%,” the analyst noted. “Looking at countries outside the

  3. Tallinn as the statistics capital of Europe for three days: new technologies and evolving user needs mean significant changes in the role of NSIs
The theme of this year’s conference was “Charting New Frontiers of Official Statistics”. The directors of 40 statistical institutes in Europe discussed why and how national statistical institutes (NSIs) could go beyond the traditional function of producing official statistics, by providing additional data services and serving as data stewards in the national data ecosystem. The conference focused on the drivers of such changes in NSIs’ roles. Urmet Lee, Director General of Statistics Estonia, said that the rapid, occasionally chaotic evolution of the data ecosystem means that national

Environmental protection expenditure accounts reflect the measures and expenditures targeted at the prevention, reduction or elimination of pollution. National expenditure on environmental protection is calculated as a sum of current expenditure and capital expenditure (investments) on environmental protection activities, after deducting transfers from the rest of the world. Kaia Oras, leading expert at Statistics Estonia, noted that nearly half of the environmental protection expenditure in 2022 was made up of expenditures on waste management (347 million euros). “Expenditure on waste
