According to the preliminary* data of Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the Estonian general government deficit was 3.4% and the debt level was 19.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 1.3 billion euros.

The increase in manufacturing output in January was mainly driven by the wood industry

Helle Bunder, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the increased output of manufacturing resulted primarily from the higher volume of production in the manufacture of wood. “In January, the output of the wood industry was up by 8.3% year on year. This was the first time since May 2022 that the output of this industry increased,” explained Bunder. In January, the volume of industrial production increased in more than half of manufacturing activities. Looking at the larger industries, there was an increase in output in the manufacture of wood (8.3%), fabricated metal products (5.9%)

Most harmful are tiny particles from vehicle emissions, combustion processes and chemical reactions in the atmosphere. Statistics provide an overview of air emissions in Estonia and their origin, for example emissions of chemical and organic compounds and fine particles; emissions of gases caused by acid rain. The data on air pollutant emissions are used when drawing up development and action plans and for monitoring air quality.
