According to Statistics Estonia, in 2012, 18.7% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty and 7.3% in absolute poverty. The overall percentage of people living in relative poverty increased 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous year, but the percentage of people living in absolute poverty decreased 0.8 percentage points.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2011 compared to the same month of the previous year, exports of goods grew by 57% and imports by 66% at current prices. The growth in imports was mainly influenced by the arrivals of machinery and equipment as well as transport equipment. Among partner countries Sweden ranked the first in both exports and imports.

According to Statistics Estonia, one out of five part-time employees would like to work more hours and is ready to do that if there is such an opportunity. In 2011, there were more than 12,000 such underemployed part-time workers.
