Briefing session on the updated Intrastat questionnaire

Foreign trade statistics are on the brink of changes. Our goal is to start reducing the administrative burden. In order to do that, we need to first introduce some changes in our existing foreign trade questionnaire INTRASTAT (dispatches and arrivals). These changes will allow the transition to SIMSTAT, i.e. single flow collection, starting from 2025. The briefing session gives information about filling in the updated questionnaire as well as creating related IT solutions. According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2021, the total production value of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad increased by 15% year on year. Considering only the Estonian construction market, the growth in construction volume was 16%.

29% of people in Estonia are estimated to be affiliated with a religion. This figure has remained unchanged over the last three population censuses. However, the proportion of people who do not feel an affiliation to any religion has increased – from 54% in 2011 to 58% in 2021. The most prevalent religion in Estonia is Orthodox Christianity.

Peer review committee praised the work of Statistics Estonia and gave first recommendations for the future

Following the peer review of Statistics Estonia last month, the peer review team has given first recommendations to Statistics Estonia. The feedback highlighted strong statistical legislation in Estonia, the agency’s role in data governance and consistent work to improve the quality of databases and questionnaires.

Exports and imports of services were at the same level in the first quarter

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2021, the exports of services grew by 2% and imports of services by 51% year on year. Estonian economic entities exported and imported services for 1.6 billion euros. The imports of services increased mainly on account of growth in telecommunications, computer and information services.

The recognition of best data story was given to the publication " Kuidas mõista andmestunud maailma? Metodoloogiline teejuht" ("Making sense of the datafied world - a methodological guide"). 38 authors contributed to the publication, which was edited by Anu Masso, Katrin Tiidenberg and Andra Siibak. The recognition of best infographic was given to " Õendustöötajate ambulatoorsed vastuvõtud ja koduvisiidid" ("Out-patient consultations and home visits of nursing staff"). Its authors are Viktoria Kirpu and Eva Anderson from the National Institute for Health Development.
