According to Statistics Estonia, there were nearly 9,000 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 4th quarter of 2016. Compared to the 3rd quarter, when the number of job vacancies reached a 7-year high, in the 4th quarter, the number of job vacancies decreased by 18%. Compared to the 4th quarter of 2015, the number of job vacancies increased by 37%.

After a few years of stagnation, 2016 can be considered rather successful for enterprises – the turnover, investments as well as the number of active enterprises increased by 4%. The improved results were reflected also in profits – the profit for the reporting year increased by 11%. Productivity indicators improved also.
Gender pay gap continues to be present in all economic activities

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in October 2018, the gender pay gap was present in all economic activities. The pay gap was biggest in financial and insurance activities (32.2%) and smallest in transportation and storage (1.9%).

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2016, the average gross hourly earnings of female employees were 20.9% lower than the average gross hourly earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 1.3 percentage points compared to the previous year. The gender pay gap decreased by 1.3 percentage points for the third year in a row.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the labour force participation rate was 71.1%, the employment rate was 66.7%, and the unemployment rate was 6.2%. There were 43,100 unemployed persons, which is 4,800 less than in 2020.
