Fewer and fewer people are commuting on foot and by public transport. Increasingly, people in Estonia prefer to travel to work by car

In the last 20 years, the share of people walking to work has fallen by nearly half. There is less use of public transport, while commuting by car has risen. Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia, looked at the data and examined how the commuting habits of Estonians have changed in recent decades.

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the number of accommodated tourists was still 7% lower than in August 2019. “In August this year, 232,000 foreign and 224,000 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia. There were 14% more foreign tourists and 1% fewer domestic tourists than in August last year,” added Laurmaa. Exports of goods in particular rose in July

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2024, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 5% and imports by 1% compared with July 2023. Exports of goods amounted to over €1.3 billion and imports to nearly €1.7 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €321 million, which is €59 million less than in July last year.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2022, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 22% while imports of services fell by 10% year on year. In the first quarter of this year, Estonia’s exports of services totalled 2 billion euros and imports of services 1.5 billion euros.
