  3. Sales of pesticides increased for the second year in a row
Swen Peterson, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that herbicides are still the most sold plant protection products. “In 2025, the sales of herbicides totalled 632 tonnes, which is over 34.7 tonnes more than in 2024. Within the available time series, it is also the largest quantity of herbicides placed on the market in Estonia in one year. 3. The rise in retail trade volume slowed down in April
Johanna Linda Pihlak, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that retail trade volume, which had grown by 7% in March year on year, did not grow as fast in April. “In April, the increase in the volume of retail trade turnover was influenced by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by stores selling manufactured goods,” added Pihlak. The turnover volume of enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel increased again in April but at a significantly lower rate. “Compared with April 2025, the turnover volume of these enterprises was up by 3%,” said Pihlak

  3. Estonian residents travelled less last year
Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that while Estonian residents have been travelling more in the post-pandemic years, they did less travelling in 2025. “Last year, the number of overnight domestic trips was still more than two times bigger than the number of outbound trips. Compared with 2024, the number of domestic trips decreased in each quarter. The number of outbound trips declined for three quarters and then started to rise again in the fourth quarter,” said Pukk, adding that this can be explained by the significant increase in charter flights, as shown by the data

  3. HICP flash estimate: prices up by 1.1% in June
The consumer price index uses weights reflecting the average expenditure structure of Estonian residents, while the harmonised index of consumer prices also takes into account tourists and is comparable to the international HICP. “Based on the preliminary estimate, the HICP was affected by the rising prices of food products and also by the higher prices of holiday trips and accommodation, although the latter is likely to be a temporary trend. Lower housing costs and decreased prices of clothing and footwear had the opposite effect on the index,” said Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price

The consumer price index uses weights reflecting the average expenditure structure of Estonian residents, while the harmonised index of consumer prices also takes into account the expenditures of tourists and is comparable to the international HICP. “Compared with the previous month, we see price increases in all major sectors except for clothing and footwear and food service and accommodation. The price rises were influenced, among other things, by the increase in VAT in July and the excise duties on tobacco and petrol,” explained Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at

What kind of survey is it? The Household Budget Survey provides information about the expenditures and living conditions of Estonian households, about household composition and the demographic and social characteristics of household members. The current survey methodology has been used since 2010. The survey consists of a household questionnaire and a personal questionnaire (for all household members aged 15 and over) and an expense diary. Who

  3. Retail trade volume began to decline in August
Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises, which had been growing since December last year, began to decline in August. “The drop in the volume of turnover was influenced by stores selling manufactured goods as well as grocery stores. The latter had the greatest impact, with their turnover volume falling by 5% compared with August last year,” Pihlak added. The turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods turned to decline in August, falling by 2% compared with August 2024. Among stores selling manufactured
