Under the guidance of the European Union statistical office Eurostat, the European Statistics Competition for students is organised in the academic year 2018/2019 in 15 European countries. Students in basic schools, secondary schools and vocational schools are participating in two age groups. Estonia participated in the competition for the first time.

The Estonian phase of the European Statistics Competition comprised two assignments. The first assignment was to complete three web-based tests, and the teams that qualified for the second assignment prepared a statistical research presentation.

184 teams with over 470 students from 50 educational institutions registered for the Estonian phase of the competition. In the older age group (approx. 16–18-year-olds), 84 teams entered to complete the web tests of the first assignment, and in the younger age group (approx. 14–16-year-olds), there were 100 such teams.

35 teams in the older age group and 40 teams in the younger age group moved on to the second assignment. Of them, 27 and 32 teams, respectively, submitted a research presentation.

The Estonian national phase of the competition took place January–March 2019. The European phase will take place in April–May.
